Ringing in the New Year with Shannon from Whats Up Whimsy!

Happy Monday and it definitely is that as I am so happy to introduce to you the lovely Shanon from What's Up Whimsy! Her blog is full of wonderful, beautiful, inspiring interiors and designs, my personal favorite is her "A house is not a home without Craigslist" post.
She has a talent for finding the best items on that site to fit an inspiring interior.
She has had an amazing year and I'm so glad she is here to share it with all of us.
Take it away Shannon...

First I would like to say thank you so much to Amber for inviting me to guest blog for her in this fun series!  I really enjoyed putting it together! So here goes….

Imagine: 2010 Highlights

2010 was a big year for me.  I started back at work full-time after a year of maternity leave and celebrated my son’s 1st birthday.

Then in April, I started my blog, What’s Up Whimsy.  I didn’t really have a plan, but I knew that I had a passion for home décor, DIY projects and art and I wanted to share it.  Well some amazing things have happened since then.  I started some freelance work with a Pistil Flowers, a floral boutique, working on their marketing, PR and social media efforts.  I have actually increased my time with them and will be spending one day a week at their shop…and learning floral design – something I’ve always wanted to learn!

I was hired to create a website for a new up and coming furniture store…coming soon!  I was also invited to some fun events – The Steven and Chris Show, The One of a Kind Show Media Breakfast, IDS 2011 Media Breakfast, etc.  And starting next month, I will be contributing to an online magazine…more info to come!   Needless to say, I have been overwhelmed at what has happened in the past 9 months.  And I’m excited to see what’s in store for 2011!

Create: your 2011 inspirations

I am incredibly inspired by events and décor and this is something that I am exploring in terms of a new career path, so I am incredibly inspired by two big hitters in the event stylist business – Bash, Please and Ashley Meaders.
They are both so incredibly creative in their styling of events.   I am always on their websites checking out new photos from their many endeavours.

Play: your 2011 forecast

As for 2011, I have high hopes that it will be the best year yet for my career and blog.  As mentioned earlier, I want to try and explore the career path of an event stylist.  Lucky for me, 2 friends and one of my sisters are getting married in 2012, so I will have lots of practice! As for the blog, I am open to whatever it brings me.  The exciting part is that there is no way to know what will happen!  Personally, I want to try and allocate more time for my family.  As a working mother (who blogs!) I often spend way too much time on the computer and I really need to learn to put the computer away!
Thank you again to Amber for sharing my 2010 recap, my 2011 inspirations and my 2011 goals!

Thank YOU Shannon for sharing such a wonderful, inspiring journey you've been through over the past year and I wish you more and more success and happiness this year!
